“Midi Musics” is a new project which seeks to encapsulate my years long obsession with the often humorous and whimsical effect that MIDI sounds have on me. The retro, computeristic, sometimes ear grating sounds of MIDI files performed by different MIDI font readers. The compositions in this album are all written entirely by Logan Perry. Despite generally being more active within improvisation, Logan has been composing for much longer than he has been improvising. Listen to these unique sound worlds that combine a disparate range of influences from the fusion drumming of Vinnie Colaiuta, to the chopped and screwed orchestral rhythms of Stravinsky, to the twelve tone romantic lyricism of Alban Berg, the orchestration techniques of Nick Didkovsky, the minimalist marimba infused style of Steve Reich, melodic sensibilities drawing on the practice of Harmolodics, and above all else, a great appreciation for all things MIDI.
